“I don’t want to make or say any clear predictions because I don’t know.”
Another day, another report on the future of Evan Ferguson. The latest news is that a struggling West Ham United are keen on the 20-year-old Meath man, with Julen Lopetegui’s side languishing in 14th spot in the Premier League.
While the Hammers have previously been linked with the Brighton striker – as have Leicester, Notts Forest, Arsenal, Spurs, Fulham, and Juventus – the Telegraph have reported that the club have now made an official enquiry.
However, Brighton are waiting on the fitness of Danny Welbeck before deciding on a loan move for Ferguson.
If Ferguson is given the all-clear to move, West Ham would seem the best fit in terms of game time available.
The Ireland international is currently injured, and unable to take advantage of Welbeck’s absence and add to his lowly two starts in this season’s Prem campaign.
On Ferguson’s foot issue, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler stated: “It’s not an easy issue, but I hope that it doesn’t take too long.
“I don’t want to make or say any clear predictions because I don’t know. We really have to go week for week and hope that he’s a good healer.”
While Hurzeler had previously denied that Ferguson would leave on loan in January, recent comments from the German clearly suggested that he was open to the idea.
He said: “At first, I think he needs to get back on the pitch.
“The rumours, I won’t discuss them in public.
“I think it’s very important the player knows our idea, that we know the idea from the player and then it’s most important to be honest with each other, to find the right solution for the club and in the end also for the player.
“I’m really happy that Evan is in our squad and I’m hoping that he will be back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
