Evan Ferguson has made a decision on his future and it’s the right move

Man United are set to miss out on Ferguson.

After a sensational breakout year in the Premier League playing a starring role for Brighton, Evan Ferguson’s future at the club has been widely debated.

There has been speculation coming from all corners with the Irishman being linked to several high profile clubs, most notably Manchester United.

The Republic of Ireland striker is only 18 years old but has shown real maturity in his game and due to his power and size, clubs are keen to get him signed.

However, Ferguson has made a decision on his immediate future and Brighton fans will be delighted to hear that he will be staying at the club.

The goal getter has hit the net seven times since making his way onto Roberto De Zerbi’s team in the second half of the season, and he seems to get better with every game.

“Evan Ferguson is very important for us, and he can keep improving a lot,” De Zerbi said on Tuesday afternoon.

“He’s still young, he’s still just 18 – we can’t forget that. He has been playing very well and we missed him on Sunday, he has different qualities.”

Ferguson had three years remaining on his current contract but this extension has been deemed as a reward for his incredible performances to date.

Judging by his progression at the club, Stephen Kenny and Ireland fans will be happy enough for the striker to remain at Brighton and continue his development there.

The last thing we want to see is a move come too soon for the Bettystown native, or that he joins a club where he won’t play as regularly.

When you take into consideration his age, how fast he’s progressing, and the way that Brighton have treated him so far, this seems like the best move for everyone involved for the short term at least.
