Jonathan Walters has perfect response after Erling Haaland breaks his record

“There is work to do big man.”

Former Ireland international Jonathan Walters has responded on social media to the news that Erling Haaland has already broken his Premier League record.

Haaland’s goal on Saturday against Nottingham Forest meant that the Man City striker has now clocked up 44 goals in just 41 appearances.

Walters, who played in the Premier League 233 times, racked up a grand total of 43 goals, so you an see why he was marvelling at the Norwegian striker’s incredible form.

Speaking on ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, the former Stoke forward highlighted this.

“Erling Haaland clearly came to the Premier League with high ambitions and records to break.

“At the weekend he officially passed my PL goal scoring record!”

However, there is one record that Walters still has in the Premier League that Haaland hasn’t even came close to touching, although we’re not too sure that he would want to.

“If you can now match my 2 own goals in a match and overtake my consecutive PL appearances record…I will happily declare you as one of the Premier League greats.

“There is work to do big man.”

Walters is referring to the fact that he once scored two own goals in a 4-0 defeat to Chelsea back in 2013 when still playing for Stoke.

The Ireland international also missed a penalty in that game as it was widely considered to be one of the most unlucky individual performances ever.

That’s not to stain the man’s career however, as Walters’ was a top operator who worked hard and brought a lot of value to Stoke and Ireland.

As you can see from his social media account, he also has a great sense of humour too!
