Eric Bailly and Mike Dean owe Sergio Romero big time after penalty incident

Man United fans are delighted with Romero

Robert Redmond

If the Europa League final goes to penalties, Manchester United won’t have to worry about Sergio Romero letting them down.

Romero is set to start the final against Ajax next week in Stockholm, and earned a rare Premier League start on Wednesday night away to Southampton.

The Argentine goalkeeper proved his worth with a penalty save after just six minutes at St Mary’s. In the process, he spared the blushes of teammate Eric Bailly and particularly referee Mike Dean.

First, Bailly clearly controlled the ball with his left arm.

However, the incident took place outside of United’s penalty area, and despite Bailly’s error in allowing the ball to hit his arm, it should not have been a penalty.

But Dean blew his whistle, pointed to the spot and clearly f****** enjoyed doing so.

Manolo Gabbiadini stepped up, but Romero guessed right and kept out his penalty kick.
