For feck’s sake, lads

England fans without tickets have attempted to storm the barriers at Wembley Stadium ahead of the Euro 2020 final more than two hours before kick off.

Video footage recorded at the scene shows fans barging through the fences put up around the stadium and racing up the stairs, at which point they will presumably try to squeeze through the turnstiles.

With all the positivity surrounding the England side right now and the sense of togetherness they have garnered, scenes like this are bitterly disappointing if not surprising.

Wembley officials to Rob Harris of Associated Press, ‘We are dealing with an incident that occurred at the outer security perimeter area of the stadium, with support from police. Safety measures were quickly activated in the relevant areas and there were no security breaches of people without tickets getting inside.’

A member of staff at Wembley told ITV that several of those trying to gain access to the stadium were seeking to brace ticket holders and those with accreditation.

It led to delays with ticketed fans getting in to the stadium but, by 7pm, Wembley started to fill up.

There will be more than 60,000 fans with tickets in the stadium by kick-off, and seemingly a few more without tickets.
