Search for Emiliano Sala’s plane continues

Simon Lloyd

Emiliano Sala was one of two people aboard the plane which disappeared from radar on Monday.

Guernsey Police have confirmed that the search for the missing aircraft which had been carrying footballer Emiliano Sala will continue into a third day. A previous tweet from them, sent on Wednesday evening, had indicated a decision on whether to recommence the search efforts.

A short message from their Twitter account on Thursday morning said that a coastal search, using an Air Search plane will continue to look for the aircraft around the area it disappeared, with further information to be released when available.

It was announced on Wednesday evening that the search was now regarded as a recovery operation, not a rescue effort.

“I think very much it is that sort of recovery stage now,” said chief officer John Fitzgerald.

“It’s trying to find parts of the aircraft, whatever is floating on the surface.”

Sala, who was one of two people on board the plane, had recently completed a move from Nantes to Cardiff City and was due to train with his new teammates on Tuesday morning. Training was called off as news of the missing plane reached the Premier League club.

It was also announced on Wednesday that Nantes are to open their training ground for supporters to lay tributes to Sala.
