Emi Martinez taunts Kylian Mbappé in Argentina dressing room in celebrations

Martinez consoled Mbappé on the pitch after the win.

Emiliano Martinez continued his customary shithousing long after Argentina’s World Cup win by singing about French star Kylian Mbappé in the dressing room.

Martinez was part of the Argentina side to win their first World Cup since 1986 as his heroics in a tense penalty shootout at Lusail Stadium gave Lionel Scaloni’s side a night to remember.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper produced a number of vital saves throughout the game too as he denied Randal Kolo Muani in the last minutes of extra time.

Along with his efforts on the pitch, Martinez was also praised for consoling Kylian Mbappé – who became the first player since Sir Geoff Hurst to score a hat trick in a World Cup final – who was visibly devastated.

His efforts also saw him win the Golden Glove award in which he celebrated in true Emi Martinez fashion, leaving the stage in style with one last laugh.

But his moment of kindness soon evaporated in the dressing room as Argentina celebrated the World Cup win. In the leaked video, Martinez can be seen dancing around with his teammates before asking for a moment of silence for Mbappé.

After the game, pundits and fans around the world praised the 30-year-old for his instrumental display throughout the tournament. He really came into his own during Argentina’s shoot-out victories over Netherlands and France respectively, but he also had a fine tournament from open play.

It might be those penalty saves from Van Dijk, Coman and co. that he’ll be remembered for, but that save from Kolo Muani in the last minute of extra-time has to go down as the most important of his career.
