Yes, you read that correctly.
Pep Guardiola can rest easy tonight, Eamon Dunphy has offered him advice ahead of becoming Manchester City manager, and in the process tore his new team to shreds.
The RTE pundit was on 2fm’s GameOn this evening, reflecting on the weekend’s Premier League action, and in particular Leicester City’s stunning 3-1 victory over City.
Dunphy said City’s squad is plagued with “rubbish” and Guardiola will need headache medicine before getting to grips with the job.
“When Pep Guardiola goes to Manchester City, he’s going to need some Panadol. The first question on the agenda when he has his first meeting will be, ‘Who bought these players?’ and ‘Who spent all that money on that rubbish?'”Dunphy also took aim at Yaya Toure, and not for the first, and you would imagine, the last time. According to the 70 year old, “Yaya will be out the door” when his old Barcelona manager arrives, but he won’t be alone in exiting the club this summer.
“He’s got a job to do. These guys are bandits. He’s going to buy a few players. I see he has £150m to spend. You won’t get much for £150m. Pep is in for a shock.”
“It’s an intriguing appointment but he will need the pills to calm him down.”
However, Dunphy was full of joy when discussing Leicester City’s meteoric rise.
“Something amazing is happening,” the former Ireland and Millwall midfielder said. “I think it’s one of the greatest stories of all-time.”
