Eamon Dunphy wouldn’t be one to make a snap judgement, would he?
Okay, he might be prone to an odd rush of blood with his comments and it seems that Manchester United’s newest young attacker is getting the deja vu lash from the Irish man’s tongue.
The RTÉ analyst has claimed that Memphis Depay wouldn’t make Manchester City’s reserve team.
The Dutch player had an awful day at the office against Newcastle and set a very unwanted Premier League record for the season so far.
And Dunphy hasn’t wasted any time in giving his tuppence worth.
“The new player Memphis is okay in the Champions League but he is raw,” he told 2FM’s Game On. “He is a million miles away from becoming a top player. He wouldn’t get into Manchester City’s reserve team.”
Of course, Dunphy famously wrote off Cristiano Ronaldo as a con. Ronaldo. The guy who has since gone on to win three Ballon d’Or awards.
But Dunphy believes that United have more problems than just Memphis.
“They have a new Chief Executive, Woodward. They miss David Gill who was there with Ferguson for many years and got the business done.
“Woodward started off very badly when he paid over the odds for Fellaini last year. It looks like he is a guy who likes to shave a lump off the price and gets gazumped.
“He is a marketing man and they have given him a job as head of one of the biggest sporting organisations in the world. It’s like sending a kid into O’Connell Street and asking him to find his way across the road.
“All that stuff about Neymar and Ronaldo earlier on, that’s just spin. I think van Gaal is a spoofer. I said it on this show six months ago and I know that is a dangerous thing to say but everything I hear him say and everything he does with the team seems to be from a guy who is making it up as he goes along.
“They don’t have near enough quality players.”
