Great to see

Anything St Kevin’s can do…

It seems as if Barcelona may have a serious hang up about facing Irish teams, after news of yet another Irish side upsetting the Catalans reached us this afternoon.

Last month, St Kevin’s Boys beat Barcelona’s U13’s in the Academy Cup, hosted in Dublin, before the Spaniards gained revenge in the final with a penalty shoot-out win.

But Lourdes Celtic‘s U11’s have stuck another famous win for Ireland.

SportsJOE reader Stephen Grant got in touch to let us know that the Crumlin based schoolboy side came through two gruelling days of football action in the Spanish sun to lift the Barcelona Cup.1

Lourdes Celtic had to face some very tough group games, against academy sides from well-known European clubs, to set up a final meeting with Barcelona’s U11 team.99

The Irish lads faced another tough game, but thanks to a goal from top scorer Jude Healy, who netted seven goals in total during the tournament, Lourdes lifted the title.looMeanwhile, the club’s U13’s just missed out on winning their final, losing 2-0 in the final to Gothenburg of Sweden.
