Laughable.
After the recent fiasco that unfolded in the Germany vs Cameroon match, you would be forgiven for thinking that the biggest points of contention regarding the use of VAR have been discussed.
Well, the Confederations Cup final has created another unnecessary talking point after Chile’s Gonzalo Jara only picked up a yellow card following this elbow on Germany’s Timo Werner.
As you can see below, Jara steps across to intercept the ball from the RB Leipzig striker, but he clearly leads with an elbow to the jaw.
The referee didn’t quite see the incident in full, but after consulting with the video assistant referees, he only showed a yellow to Jara, who is very, very lucky to still be on the field.
Here’s the incident in full.

Naturally, people have been making the obvious point.
Still not getting the VAR !! If you have to take a decision and stop the match, must be something that change the game !!

If the VAR can't decide without the ref that that's a straight red then it's a waste of time.

Those of us who feel officials should be left to make decisions in real time can feel a bit smug about the shambles that is VAR.

Jara elbows Werner, goes to VAR, and gets a yellow. Not a red. Should have been a red.

Elbow + VAR = yellow card and 3 minutes wasted #CHIGER

Deliberate elbow to the face brings a yellow card under VAR? Laughable.

GARBAGE!!!!! VAR says a yellow after an elbow to the jaw!…beyond poor execution. #CHIGER

Somebody explain to me how that isn't a red card on Jara. And they used VAR? What's the point if you don't get the call right? #ConfedCup

VAR is the best! Just refs getting another chance to balls it up.
