Diego Simeone’s timing is impeccable.

With the ink still drying on Antonio Conte’s contract with Chelsea, the Atletico boss – heavily linked with Stamford Bridge earlier in the season – has now revealed where he hopes his managerial future may lie.

“Throughout my career there are certain posts I expect to go to,” Simeone explained to Premium Sport.

“So I hope to return to Milan in the future. Not now, because I’m fine at Atletico, but it’s a situation I envisage, just as I envisaged being back here in Madrid.”

Simeone, who has been widely praised for transforming Atletico Madrid into one of the best sides on the continent, spent two years at Inter Milan as a player in the late nineties.

Although the 45-year-old seems to have his heart set on a return to Italy at some point in the future, we wouldn’t rule him out of taking up a managerial position in England just yet.
