We as football fans may not see Pep this summer, but we could be very close to Diego heading for the Premier League.
Chelsea’s summertime options for appointing a future head coach may have been given a significant boost by the news that both Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid, are set to serve lengthy transfer bans.
It was announced on Thursday that the Madrid clubs have been hit with the same ban that Barcelona were issued after an investigation in to ‘irregularities in the signing of minors’.
The newspapers today are full of speculation that due to the transfer ban, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone may be ready to quit the former La Liga champions.
The 45-year-old has been a huge success in Spain, and is the only manager in recent years to ave broken the duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But according to the Daily Mirror, the club are desperate to land the former Argentina star, but the transfer ban may also have knock on effects to their summer time spending.
Simeone is likely to want to bring at least one if not two players from his former stomping ground if he were to leave Atletico, and the transfer ban would likely mean they would not be interested in selling, especially Atletico star Antoine Griezmann, if they could not replace him with someone of similar quality.
