Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
No, not Marcos Rojo, the scorer of Argentina’s late winning volley against Nigeria in their final group game, I am in fact talking about Diego Maradona, who reacted to that winner with the most Diego Maradona moment ever.
The winner, which saw Rojo volley in a cross into the bottom right-hand corner of the Nigerian net, saw Diego – a legend of a man who had already celebrated Lionel Messi’s opener in a truly fantastic manner, jump to his feet and hug those next to him in his plush seats.
What followed then was what looked to be a real release for the living diety, who lifted up both hands, triumphantly elevated his middle fingers, pushed his hands out in the air and shouted “PUTA!”.
It was a moment so pure Maradona that it could’ve been scripted, and it was wonderful.
Post career Joe Namath multiplied by post career Pete Rose = Post Career Diego Maradona. And it is kind of awful to witness pic.twitter.com/pIeIzCRxuy
