Seamus Coleman made our combined XI of Liverpool and Everton players of players in the current squads of the Merseyside teams.
Nathaniel Clyne is a very good player, but there was no question that Everton’s right back would make the team.
Didi Hamann evidently would agree, and has even gone a step further by naming Coleman in his combined XI of Liverpool and Everton players from the Premier League era.

Hamann opted for Coleman ahead of his former Liverpool teammate Steve Finnan, and club legends such as Josemi and Jan Kromkamp.
The Republic of Ireland captain joined the Toffees from Sligo Rovers in 2009, and has played over 200-times for the club. He’s easily among the best in his position in the Premier League, and it’s hard to argue against his place in Hamann’s team.
But, otherwise, there’s a few controversial choices in the combined XI.
Hamann leaves out Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and, most controversially, Luis Suarez from his team, which has a fair balance of Liverpool and Everton players.
Pepe Reina, the former Liverpool goalkeeper, is selected. Coleman, Sami Hyypia, Jamie Carragher and Leighton Baines make-up the Merseyside defence.

In midfield, Tim Cahill is the only former Everton player selected.
The Australian is selected alongside Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard and err, John Arne Riise, the former Liverpool left-back.
Up-front, Duncan Ferguson and Fernando Torres are selected, meaning there’s no room for Suarez.
