Dele Alli tells SportsJOE that he sings Tottenham chant mocking Mesut Özil in his car

It is pretty catchy

Matt Tate

Dele Alli has become a real fan favourite at White Hart Lane.

Brilliant performances and some spectacular goals throughout the campaign that will almost certainly end with Tottenham’s highest ever Premier League finish have endeared the 20-year-old to the Spurs faithful.

People paying attention might have heard that fans of the North London club have recently come up with a new song for their midfield maestro.

It’s a riff on a similar song that has been adopted by neighbours Arsenal and West Ham. And not for the first time in a Spurs chant, there’s a reference to Mesut Özil.

The song goes like this:

We’ve got Alli,

“Dele Alli,

“I just don’t think you understand.

“He only cost 5 ‘mill,

“He’s better than Ozil,

“We’ve got Dele Alliiiiiiii…”

For all the time and beer consumption required to bring these songs to life, it’s not that often that you hear players give their feedback on them.

But SportsJOE can reveal that Dele Alli is a big fan of his latest chant. We had a chat with the player at the launch of the EA SPORTS FIFA 16 Ultimate Team – Barclays Premier League Team of the Season, and when asked if he’d heard it in the terraces, he said:

I like it, I think it’s catchy. I’ve been singing it in my car.”

Alli also paid tribute to the Tottenham fans for helping him to settle so quickly into life in England’s top tier. He added:

“It helps massively and I can’t thank them enough. They helped me to settle in and to feel a part of Tottenham straight away and they’re definitely our twelfth man when we go behind, or even if we’re just searching for that goal.

“When the fans are singing like they do at White Hart Lane it gives you the belief in yourself to keep fighting for the team and for them as well.”
