Liverpool fans beware.
Dejan Lovren was put in front of the media ahead of tonight’s Europa League match with Bordeaux and the accident-prone defender explained how he has improved under Jurgen Klopp.
Tempting fate, perhaps.
Lovren had a tough start to the season, but he must not believe in jinxing himself as he’s explained why he’s now finally beginning to look like the defender the club paid a club record fee for in 2013.
He was dropped for the early part of this campaign after a very shaky debut season at Anfield, but since Mamadou Sakho’s injury, Lovren has partnered Martin Skrtel in the Liverpool defence and has looked much more at ease, especially in the recent win over Manchester City.
So we hope for everyone’s sake that Lovren hasn’t put the hex on himself by revealing why Liverpool look a bit more solid at the back these days and why defending is a little easier under the German than Brendan Rodgers
“It is much easier now because we are working much harder than before and we are – I would say – playing like a team now with everyone feeling comfortable.
“Of course the manager had a big influence on the team and everyone has that (confidence) and every one of the players has changed a little bit their opinion of football.
“It makes it much easier to play and gives you the confidence that even if you make a mistake, afterwards he will talk to you and explain to you the wrong things and good things.
“He is always behind the team and the players are behind him.”
If we were cynical, we might think that was a little dig at the end days of Rodgers, who could often be very blunt with players after a loss or an error cost Liverpool some much needed points.
Let’s hope Dejan doesn’t come back to regret the comments tonight.
