They are above the relegation zone on goal difference but Friday’s 2-0 defeat against minnows Las Palmas proved to be the coup de grace for Moyes’ tenure at the club.
Just one day shy of his one-year anniversary of becoming manager.
David Moyes has been sacked as Real Sociedad boss 364 days after taking the position. Moyes’ assistant Billy McKinlay has also been dismissed.
Sociedad have had an abysmal start to the La Liga season, languishing near the bottom of the table after winning just two of their opening 11 matches.
A statement on the website of the La Liga club reads: “We want to thank both David Moyes and Billy McKinlay for the entire contribution, professionalism and dedication they have shown during the course of their duties in the direction of the first team.
“We wish them the best for their professional and personal future.”
