David Moyes apologises to Match of the Day’s Vicki Sparks for ‘slap’ threat

"You still might get a slap even though you’re a woman."

Given that Sunderland are propping up the Premier League table with just nine games to play, you’d expect David Moyes to be facing the odd tough question from the media.

So, following their recent goalless draw at home to Burnley, reporter Vicki Sparks asked the former Manchester United boss if he was feeling the pressure of club owner owner Ellis Short watching the game from the stand.

Audio footage has since emerged of Moyes warning Sparks about her choice of questions after the official post-match interview had finished.

“It was getting a wee bit naughty at the end there so just watch yourself,” Moyes tells her. “You still might get a slap even though you’re a woman.”

“Careful the next time you come in,” he adds.

According to the Daily Star, a BBC spokesperson has since indicated that Moyes has now apologised to Sparks for the comment.

“Mr Moyes has apologised to our reporter and she has accepted his apology,” they told the paper.

A spokesperson for the club also spoke to the Star, adding: “David and the reporter spoke to another another subsequently and the mater was resolved amicably.”
