De Gea has failed to agree a new contract at Manchester United
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could be set to leave the club for Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Spaniard has failed to agree an extension to his current deal at Old Trafford, which is due to expire next year.
According to The Times, PSG are poised to make a bid for De Gea after it was announced on Wednesday that Gianluigi Buffon would leave the club after just one season in the French capital.
Buffon opted to prolong his career in Paris last summer after leaving Juventus. Though he helped them retain their Ligue 1 title, he made some high-profile errors throughout the course of the season – including the one which allowed Romelu Lukaku to score a crucial goal as United knocked PSG out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage.
With the 41-year-old due to leave at the end of the month, it seems likely a new goalkeeper will be on PSG’s list of summer priorities.
The Qatari-backed club have expressed an interest in De Gea before and, given there is no sign of the 28-year-old agreeing a new United deal any time soon, could now follow up with a bid.
Though the report adds that United insist De Gea is not for sale this summer, the prospect of losing him on a free in a year may force a rethink.
De Gea is thought to have asked United to reward him for his form over recent seasons with a wage packet which matches that of Alexis Sanchez, who is said to pocket £350,000 a week.
