If this doesn’t make American’s love football, nothing will.

David Beckham hopes to sign Lionel Messi for his MLS franchise, according to the Daily Mail – despite the fact his team don’t have a name or a new stadium.

The Miami franchise is part of the American league’s expansion, raising the number of teams from 20 to 24, and hope to be competing in time for the 2017 season.

And Beckham has reportedly made signing the world’s greatest footballer “a long-term” plan.David Beckham, Commissioner Don Garber and Mayor Carlos Gimenez Press ConferenceWhether Messi is prepared to walk away from Barcelona to play in America is another thing though.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, out of contract this summer with PSG, is another marquee signing Beckham has reportedly targeted for his franchise.

However, according to the Mail: “Beckham views the capture of Messi as one of Miami United’s long-term goals and is prepared to bide his time to make his dream a reality.”

You could be waiting a while, Becks.
