Daryl Horgan nabs brace to send Hibs into Scottish Cup fifth round

Hibernian winger Daryl Horgan scored twice in Hibs’ 4-0 win over Elgin City in the Scottish Cup fourth round on Saturday.

Horgan signed a three-year contract with the Edinburgh based club in August 2018 having moved from Preston for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The former Dundalk attacker had scored one goal in 19 games this season but scored a nice brace against Elgin City as he tries to resurrect his career in the UK following a brilliant spell with the Lilywhites in 2016.

Horgan said he’s not concerned with comparisons between him and other players but that he does need to get a grip of the Scottish Premiership.

“I need to constantly be doing the right things well. If it doesn’t happen, I’m not happy,” Horgan told the Scottish Daily Record earlier this month.

“I’ve been up and down at Hibs and know I need to be more consistent. It will be tough but that’s my job.

“There have been some good things from me but maybe I need to get a grip of this league a bit more.

“I haven’t thought about trying to replace the guys who left here. I’ll go out and do my own thing, play my own game. I’m not McGinn or McGeouch. I play the game the way I like to play it and helping the team is my main aim.

“I’m not trying to replace people. I’m not the same player as those guys. If I can bring something else, something different, fantastic – but I can’t jump into someone’s else’s shoes.”
