A lovely gesture

Tottenham drew 2-2 against Rochdale in their fifth round FA Cup tie on Sunday afternoon. Steve Davies’ last minute winner cancelled out Harry Kane’s goal in the 88th minute which everyone assumed had the game wrapped up. That last gasp goal has earned League One Rochdale a trip to Wembley, and you could see how much it meant from the celebrations.

But one moment stood out in this match and it wasn’t a goal. In the midst of the celebrations after Kane buried an 88th minute penalty which should have put Spurs through, Danny Rose made a heartwarming gesture to his good friend and former teammate Ryan Mason.

Rose kissed the camera lens and shouted Mason’s name.

Mason, who suffered a crack to the skull in a 50/50 aerial duel with Gary Cahill while playing for Hull last season, announced last week that he would be retiring from football at the tender age of 26. He has received numerous messages of support from former teammates, coaches and looks likely to take up a role within the Spurs academy. He is evidently a much loved character.

There is clearly a lot of love between him and Rose especially, going by Mason’s response to Rose’s gesture.
