He’s desperate to get back in the England squad.
Daniel Sturridge is set to move to Inter Milan on loan, according to reports from well connected Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano.
The details need to be ironed out before it goes through but if the clubs can settle on a future fee to sign the striker permanently, the loan deal should go through this month.
Liverpool have reportedly valued Sturridge at £40m, which Inter see as too steep a price to pay for an injury prone 28-year-old whose contract runs out in the summer of 2019.
The Liverpool striker’s injury problems are well documented and have prevented him from getting an extended run in the Liverpool side over the last two seasons.
Sturridge is up against Roberto Firmino for a place in the Liverpool side as the central striker, and the latter has demonstrated his importance to the intense system Liverpool play.
Jürgen Klopp cannot find a place Sturridge into his system at Liverpool, so it would make sense for the striker to spend the second half of the season at a club who will give him more game time, especially as there is a World Cup in the summer that Sturridge will be desperate to play in.
But is that club Inter? The Milan club’s captain and star player, Mauro Icardi, has nailed down the number 9 slot for the Nerazzurri and won’t be dropped for Sturridge. So, the Englishman may find himself playing out wide, or just behind Icardi, if coach Luciano Spalletti adjusts his system to accommodate two strikers.
Get them both firing and that is one hell of a strike force.
