Damien Richardson stepped down as Drogeheda United last night after just four months in charge.
The financial situation at Hunky Dory’s Park has been under scrutiny for some time and Richardson had expressed concern about this earlier in the week in an interview on LMFM.
He said: “These are dark and desperate days that must be overcome. We need somebody come into the football club and show leadership. We need it now more than any other time in our history.”
A short statement from the 67-year-old confirmed his departure late yesterday evening.
Richardson said: “I enjoyed my time at Drogheda tremendously and would have loved to remain as manager had the circumstances been different.
“I wish the club nothing but the best in the future.”
