Damien Duff has signed a 18 month contract with Shamrock Rovers.
The former Republic of Ireland international officially signed for the Tallaght based club today, after being linked with a move to the League of Ireland for the past few months.
Duff looks set to make his debut next month when he regains match fitness.
“I am very excited to have signed for the club. It’s great to have it all finalised and now I’m just really looking forward to getting back on the pitch,” Duff told the club’s official website.
“I have always said that I wanted to come back and play in Ireland and I am very grateful to Pat (Fenlon, Rovers’ manager) and the club for giving me the chance to do that. Not only do I get the chance to come back and play, but I get to do it at the biggest club in the country.”
“I am as excited about this move as I have been about any in my career, be that Newcastle, Chelsea or any other. I left Ireland 20 years ago to go and make a career as a footballer and so now it’s great to be back. And I am definitely not just here to see out my time as a player; I intend to make a positive contribution to Shamrock Rovers and to the league.”

The 36 year old Dubliner’s last stint in club football was with Melbourne City in the A-League. However, Duff’s time was cut short, after suffering thigh and ankle injuries back in February.
The news is a welcome boost for the SSE Airtricity League, it’s not often players’ with 100 international caps line-out in the domestic game.
It was reported last week that Duff would be giving his entire Rovers’ salary, around €1,000 a week, to charity.
