How the hell does this keep happening?
The modern phenomenon of posting a word-for-word, copied and pasted message from a club’s social media team can be called “pulling an Anichebe.”
Victor Anichebe was the first high-profile footballer to make such a regrettable error, when he tweeted the below under encouragement from those who run Sunderland’s social media.
Christian Benteke suffered a similar fate when he failed to delete the word “caption” from an Instagram post in which he celebrated a goal towards the end of last season.
Daley Blind’s effort might be the worst of the lot, however.
The versatile Manchester United man was chosen to model his side’s brand spanking new third kit ahead of their preseason friendly with Barcelona.
The fan-designed grey jersey concerned many supporters given United’s lack of luck the last time they wore grey but they will get to see how the players fare with the colour a mere week since its unveiling when they wear it in Maryland.
On Tuesday, Blind got a message from United’s crack social media team, who kindly requested that the Dutchman send the below photograph out on his social media platforms, but, unfortunately, he just quickly copied and pasted and got on with his day.
The balls-up was quickly noticed by supporters and Blind promptly deleted it but not before screenshots aplenty did the rounds on Twitter.
