Several supporters have been seriously injured after an escalator malfunctioned ahead of Roma’s Champions League meeting with CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night.
The incident took place at the Repubblica metro station in Rome, where an escalator collapsed and caused a terrifying crush.
Italian news agency Ansa has reported that at least 10 people have been badly hurt, with the majority sustaining leg injuries as the escalator rapidly descended and sent fans hurtling down the moving stairs.
Footage on social media shows people attempting to avoid the drop by diving off the escalator while those on the opposite side attempted to help.

The station has since been closed and four ambulances are on the scene at the time of writing.
Unconfirmed reports state that one fan involved in the pile-up lost his foot and a disturbing photograph of the aftermath shows what met supporters at the bottom of the escalator.
