The Palace chairman says he was just trying to show how far his team has come
Liverpool eased their way into the FA Cup quarter finals with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The ground has been a very unhappy one for Liverpool of late and with the league beyond them, it is Liverpool’s best chance of ending the year with a trophy. Understandably then the Liverpool fans and players were delighted with the win, and the dream of Steven Gerrard playing his final game for Liverpool in the FA Cup final, on his 35th birthday, remains intact.
But a tweet by Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish on the subject of how happy Brendan Rodgers’ side were with the victory has landed him in some hot water.
When we took over we just avoided going to the third tier. Yesterday #LFC beat us. They are celebrating like they won the league #progress

On first reading, it does sound like Parish is mocking Liverpool for over exuberance, a fact pointed out by many who got in touch with the chairman. However, Parish has since clarified his comments, saying that Liverpool now see Palace as a tough team to beat and that the progress his team has made is what he was referring to.
“@Millxr: Why is the chairman of Palace trying to leather us ‘ Pal I love #LFC great club just saying we have come a long way — Steve Parish (@CEO4TAG) February 15, 2015
“@BALOHENDO: @CEO4TAG bitter” You’re so wrong , we are nothing but joyful , wish you all the best hope you win it
