Slightly discouraging for Louis van Gaal.
The Manchester United manager made it clear over the weekend that he would be at the head of the queue if Cristiano Ronaldo decides to leave Real Madrid this summer, but agent Jorge Mendes has insisted the Portuguese is going nowhere.
The odds of Ronaldo leaving the Bernabeu have shortened dramatically since the start of the season, and with the 30-year-old losing out to manager Rafael Benitez in the latest bout of internal bickering at the club, Van Gaal would have felt pretty good about his chances of capitalising on Ronaldo’s unrest next summer.
However, Mendes has attempted, almost certainly in vain, to put a halt to rumours swirling around his star client. Speaking on French TV, Mendes said: “It is impossible. He will end his career at Real Madrid.”
