Seven years.
Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly on the verge of signing a seven-year mega deal worth £175m a year at Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr.
Reports in Spain claim that Ronaldo will sign a seven-year contract that will see him take a playing role for the first two and a half years before moving into an ambassadorial role. As part of that, the forward’s payment will increase with each year that passes.
His ambassadorial role will also see the forward play a major part in Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Greece and Egypt.
The 37-year-old has been without a club since leaving Manchester United in November as the two parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
His departure came days after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan was released to the public in which he gave a damning assessment of the state of affairs at the club.
Man United make brief Cristiano Ronaldo statement
United published a brief 81-word statement about Cristiano Ronaldo in their matchday programme at Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup victory against Burnley. It read:
“The Portuguese superstar scored 145 goals across two spells and 436 appearances, and helped us win three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Ronaldo was also crowned Ballon d’Or winner in 2008.”
In order to complete the high profile signing, Al Nassr are preparing to offload three players so that they have enough to afford the signing.
Talks between Ronaldo and Al Nassr have reportedly made a breakthrough in the past week. Ronaldo has been linked with a move to the Middle East but refused to comment on his future while at the World Cup.
Al Nassr are one of Saudi Arabia’s most successful clubs having won the title nine times, with their last triumph coming back in 2019.
The club are currently managed by Rudi Garcia, who has previously taken charge of Marseille, Lyon and Roma.
