Courtois goes? Dave stays?
Manchester United have been handed a massive boost in their hopes of prolonging David De Gea’s stay at Old Trafford. And this time, there’s not a dodgy fax machine in sight.
The United number one came extremely close to leaving the club for Real Madrid a few years back, only for the deal to collapse at the eleventh hour due to the Spanish club not receiving the correct paperwork in time.
With Jose Mourinho hoping to tie down the Spanish international to an extended contract at United, some reports have suggested Real are again contemplating another move for De Gea. He is, however, not the only Premier League-based goalkeeper in their sights. Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois is another name to have been linked with a move to the Bernabeu in recent years, and his latest comments have done little to quieten such speculation.
Speaking to Sport Foot Magazine, the Belgian openly admitted that he’d be interested in leaving Stamford Bridge to return to the Spanish capital, where he spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014.
“If Real Madrid want me, I’d have to speak with Chelsea,” he explained.
“If they are interested, my personal situation would affect things. My two kids live in Madrid with their mother. The family aspect has no price. My heart is in Madrid.”
Subtle, Thibaut, subtle.
And United fans don’t care what it takes to copper-fasten this whole situation.
