Further proof that democracy is a flawed concept
You would think that fans of Real Madrid would be grateful that they have the best player in the world togging out for them but it seems that a rather large proportion are not.
AS conducted a poll today asking their readers to decide which of the BBC (Bale, Benzema, Cristiano) frontline should be dropped and a staggering 32 per cent went for Ronaldo.
After defeat to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, the fans are in very bad form but dropping Ronaldo is surely not the answer, especially as he scored a goal in each of the three previous games.
The news was even worse for Gareth Bale, who topped the poll with 46 per cent wanting the Welsh man dropped. That will only add fuel to the Bale to Manchester United rumours anyway.
Benzema fared best, with just 21 per cent wanting him dropped if Carlo Ancelotti reverted to a two-man forward line.
Ronaldo’s form has certainly dipped since Christmas, and that of Lionel Messi has gone through the roof so the contrast is stark, but we really don’t think removing the best player in the world from your team ever helped any side.
