It was one of the great nights of European football at Anfield.
And Borussia Dortmund played their part on and off the pitch.
Their fans helped belt out a rousing rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone before kick off and then were impeccably behaved during the minute’s silence for the 96 victims of the Hillsborough Disaster, who happened 27 years ago on Friday.
Once the game began it was the men in yellow who showed that the fans weren’t the only class act representing Dortmund.
The first half display from Thomas Tuchel’s side was imperious as they raced into a two-goal lead.
But Liverpool fought back with a truly incredible second half performance to win 4-3 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate.
Despite the disappointment on the pitch, Dortmund again showed their class with a message posted in response to the Liverpool official account’s statement that there were ‘no words’ to describe the win.
True. Except: Congratulations and all the best on your #RoadToBasel, @LFC! #lfcbvb https://t.co/2orCIHIiW7
