Man City facing defensive crisis ahead of meeting with bogey side Sunderland

Vincent Kompany picked up a hamstring injury in Sunday's 3-0 win against Southampton

Neil Treacy

Champions Man City will be hoping to end a run of four successive 1-0 defeats away to Sunderland tomorrow night, but they’ll have to do so without captain Vincent Kompany, who has a hamstring injury.

Kompany picked up the knock against Southampton on Sunday, and it now leaves City quite stretched at the back, with Matija Nastasic also injured, and Eliaquim Mangala suspended.

It could mean a rare league start for Dedryck Boyata alongside Martin Demichelis, while Manuel Pelligrini is also believed to be considering switching Bacary Sagna inside to the centre.

Sunderland have been somewhat of a bogey side for Man City in recent seasons, they’ve lost 1-0 on their last four trips to the Stadium of Light, while they’ve only beaten Sunderland once in their last six league meetings.
