Cillian Sheridan’s travels have taken him all over Europe.
The Cavan-born striker has played for clubs in Scotland, England, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Poland during a storied career but he has now agreed to a new adventure on a different continent.
Sheridan, who has earned three caps for the Republic of Ireland, confirmed on Wednesday night that he had signed for New Zealand side Wellington Phoenix FC after completing a medical with the Hyundai A-League outfit.
Earlier this week, it emerged that Sheridan’s contract with Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok was terminated by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old did his research before putting pen to paper on the new move, which could see him lead the line for Wellington Phoenix against Adelaide United on Saturday.
“To play in another country with different challenges is always appealing to me,” Sheridan told the club’s website.
“I have followed the Hyundai A-League and Wellington Phoenix are playing an attractive style and for a footballer you want to enjoy your football and what Mark Rudan is doing, really sold it to me.”
With 98 career goals already to his name, Sheridan surely won’t have long to wait before he reaches the 100 mark.
“I’m constantly looking to challenge my players,” said Wellington Phoenix head coach Mark Rudan.
“Competition for places is crucial and at this time of the season, it’s important to strengthen the squad and add quality.”
