‘It stinks!’

Brendan Rodgers looks poised to succeed Claude Puel at Leicester City after Celtic granted him permission to talk to the Premier League club.

Rodgers has enjoyed huge success at Celtic, taking them to an invincible treble in the 2016/17 season, but appears to have taken this side as far as he can.

Celtic fans are understandably hugely disappointed to see the back of Rodgers, who has given Hoops fans so many happy memories, as is Chris Sutton.

The former Celtic striker has released a furious reaction video to the news, saying that Rodgers’ decision (if he does indeed leave) ‘stinks’.

“Quite frankly, it stinks,” he begins the video.

“The timing of it stinks. He’s going to a club who are playing for absolutely nothing. They’re not going to get relegated, not going to get into Europe.

“I am really disappointed and I think there’s a lot of Celtic fans out there as well who will feel let down. This is the job that Brendan said was his ‘dream job’. So why is he going now to a club who have nothing to play for?”

News that Neil Lennon looks likely to return to Celtic as Rodgers’ replacement has not gone down well with Celtic fans, compounding their misery during the closest title race in recent years.

“It looks like Neil Lennon will get the opportunity and I wish him well. In terms of how Brendan has left the club, I think he’s left the club in a tough situation,” Sutton added, saying there is a big squad overhaul needed.

“Bottom line, the timing of this absolutely stinks,” he goes on to say, again.

“Brendan Rodgers is a top coach and I certainly wish him well, but come on Brendan, the timing, it’s poor.”

Celtic are currently eight points ahead of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
