Roman Abramovich will not have enjoyed his 49th birthday.
The Russian billionaire saw his Chelsea side lose 2-1 to West Ham this afternoon, after the Premier League champions played the entire second half with 10 men.
Jose Mourinho was in the stands as Andy Carroll scored the late winner and the Blues are now three places above the relegation zone.
By all accounts, West Ham were full value for their win as they added the scalp of Chelsea to the heads of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City in their trophy cabinet already this season.
The Chelsea website disagreed. They described the loss as coming in ‘cruel circumstances’ and that was only the start.
As propaganda goes, it is a very decent effort:
