This would ruffle a few feathers.
Everything has been going smoothly at Arsenal this summer. They have addressed the problems in the squad, signing a proper defensive midfielder, a back-up right back and a centre-back, as well as a young, actually good goalkeeper. Also, they have of course got a new manager, after Arsène Wenger abdicated after 22 years on the throne. Surely, this was all too good to be true? Ah, it was.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal’s summer could be ruined as Chelsea are preparing to make a late bid for Aaron Ramsey, who has just one year left on his contract at the Emirates.
Chelsea are hoping that a bid of £30m will be enough to tempt the Welshman away from Arsenal, while also hoping that the appeal of working under Maurizio Sarri will prove to be a persuasive factor.
Ramsey has one year left on his Arsenal contract and has not yet agreed a new deal with the club he has played for since 2008. Still only 27, his powers are unlikely to fade any time soon and £30m would be a steal for such a talented player.
If no deal is agreed for a new contract, Ramsey will enter the season with the prospect of leaving on a free transfer come next summer. Chelsea will reportedly be keeping tabs on how negotiations pan out and should Arsenal fail to tie him down to a new contract, they will swoop in with a late offer.
