He almost signed for Liverpool this summer

If we’ve learned anything over recent transfer windows, it’s to expect the unexpected. In the past year, we’ve seen the world record transfer fee more than doubled, Cristiano Ronaldo leave Real Madrid and Crystal Palace sign literal Max Meyer.

The market has gone crazy, top teams have more money than sense, and that means that weird shit happens. In the latest instalment of transfers you didn’t expect to see, it looks like Nabil Fekir could join Chelsea, according to France Football.

The Lyon attacker came close to joining Liverpool earlier this summer. So close that there is still a video on Liverpool’s hard drive of Fekir, dressed head to toe in Liverpool gear, explaining how happy he is to have joined the club. That move fell through when a knee problem was detected during his medical examinations and Liverpool decided to pull out at the last minute.

In a strange sequence of events, it looks like Fekir could be joining Chelsea instead. His skillset would suit Maurizio Sarri’s fast, technical style of play, and he would most likely play from the right, but it is still a link that few will have expected to see this summer.

It’s safe to say that Liverpool fans have not taken the news well, going by these tweets.
