Nothing could possibly go wrong when you re-hire a former manager, right?
Guus Hiddink is the frontrunner to take charge of Chelsea until the end of the season after the club parted ways with Jose Mourinho on Thursday afternoon.
Hiddink did something similar for the Blues in 2009 when he saw out the campaign following Luiz Felipe Scolari’s sacking and many mainstream media outlets have been reporting that the Dutchman is set to do the same this time around.
Hiddink won the FA Cup in 2009 with the Stamford Bridge outfit and has been without a job since leaving the Netherlands international set-up earlier this year.
Juande Ramos had been mentioned as one of the more likely replacements that owner Roman Abramovich was considering in a bid to drag Chelsea up the table from their current spot, one point above the relegation zone.
But it seems that Abramovich prefers the idea of a familiar stopgap as he assesses the full-time replacement that will likely take charge in the summer with Diego Simeone, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti all possible candidates.
But whether those names will be willing to take a job in the Championship is still up for debate.
