Champions League clubs put on alert after Romelu Lukaku’s latest comments

Top strikers playing for clubs outside the Champions League are few and far between.

Either they're newly-arrived at sleeping giants, like Anthony Martial, a late-bloomer like Nolito, or seemingly settled at their current club. Or they're Diego Costa. But now one player in the latter camp may well be available, with Romelu Lukaku emphasising a desire to win titles - something he might find difficult at Everton. The Belgian international was at Chelsea when they won the 2012 Champions League but did not feature in the competition, while he famously missed the decisive penalty in the Super Cup final early in the 2013/14 season. "I have my own ideas in mind. I want to win titles," the Belgian is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. He claimed to have a winning mindset from his time at Stamford Bridge, though his only medal with the club came in the 2011/12 FA Cup, and he is willing to listen to Everton's new major shareholder Farhad Moshiri "out of courtesy". Lukaku has not played in the Champions League since leaving Anderlecht, and is thought to be keen to return to the competition at the age of 23. The Toffees will have no European football next season, having finished 11th in the Premier League for the second successive season. Lukaku top-scored for the club with 25 goals, but failed to find the net in 10 games after scoring both goals in the FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea in March.
