Cesc Fabregas being told that his assist doesn’t count on Sky Sports was great TV

You whaaa?!

Not quite a Branislav Ivanovic moment.

Given that Cesc Fabregas had the freedom of London to get his head up and find passes against Middlesbrough, it was always likely that the Spanish midfielder was going to have an influential game at Stamford Bridge.

Despite various people insisting that Fabregas wasn’t going to be a ‘Conte-type of player’, the former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder has excelled in the matches where he has featured for the Blues.

Despite this limited role, the midfielder has now become the first player to have managed ten or more assists in six different seasons.

This record is even more impressive when you consider the fact that he’s only been named in Chelsea’s starting XI for 11 of his 26 appearances this season. Despite this, he’s more than played his part in Chelsea’s title charge, chipping in with four goals and ten assists.

When this record-breaking feat was mentioned to Fabregas by Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones, the midfielder was insistent that he has actually registered 11 assists this season.

It’s not quite as heartbreaking as the moment when Geoff Shreeves old Branislav Ivanovic that he would be missing the Champions League final, but it definitely gave us a laugh.

Take a look at one of the more memorable man of the match interviews from this season.
