Cesc Fabregas can, quite simply, feck right off if he thinks we’re taking him seriously with this.
The Chelsea midfielder has played alongside some of the most talented players of all time in the centre of the park but has ignored every single one of them as he named his pick for greatest midfield partner ever.
Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Patrick Vieira have all played with Fabregas at stages of the Spaniard’s career but all four weren’t really up for consideration as he bizarrely selected Mathieu Flamini as his favourite midfield comrade.
Speaking recently to Football Daily, Fabregas explained why he believes Flamini was a better midfielder than either Iniesta or Xavi, neither of whom even make his top two as Gilberto Silva is also preferred to both.
“I had two years playing next to Flamini, for example,” Fabregas said.
“Maybe because I was physically very good and he covered so much ground.
“If I say Iniesta or Xavi, yeah it’s fantastic for the eyes, but in real football that’s not real for me.
“If I have to pick one, it will be between Gilberto Silva and Flamini.”
