Cesc Fabregas shows real class after horrific challenge on Liverpool’s new signing

Another Liverpool player sent to hospital

It was the least he could’ve done.

Cesc Fabregas might size you down and lunge in studs first the odd time – pre-season friendly or not – but he will always, always apologise for it.

The Chelsea midfielder was sent off during the Blues’ 1-0 Champions Cup victory over Liverpool after a nasty challenge on Ragnar Klavan and the referee couldn’t have shown him a red card any quicker.

It didn’t affect the result though as Gary Cahill’s most typical Gary Cahill goal had Antonio Conte’s men in the lead from the 10th minute and they never looked back.

The spirit of Mourinho is alive and well.

Fabregas, to his credit, made some amends after the game when he sought out the Liverpool defender – who joined from Augsburg this summer – to apologise for his tackle.

The player was fine, he was actually one of two ‘Pool men to stay on for the full 90 minutes but, in a friendly that yielded six yellow cards, it was only inevitable that someone would get hurt and Jurgen Klopp confirmed afterwards that Marko Grujic was sent to hospital with suspected concussion after his clash with Bertrand Traore.

The league game should be fun…
