Celtic swoop to sign highly rated Irish striker

Hoop dreams

Celtic have won the race to sign promising Irish striker Tommy Caffrey.

The Scottish champions snapped up the highly touted Ballyfermot and St Francis youngster on a three-year contract, beating several Uk clubs in the hunt for his signature.

The U16s centre-forward, who represented Ireland earlier in the season, opted for Celtic after turning down offers from other clubs, according to his coach Mark Connelly.

“He was one of our best players, he had other opportunities but I think he was always set on Celtic, the lad has a good attitude and deserves it, he has done very well for us this season and we wish him all the best”, Connelly told Echo.ie.

St Francis congratulated their former player on the move on their Facebook page earlier this week. The club pegged Caffrey as one of the best players on the island his age group and claimed the deal was a deserving reward for all the hard work he’s put in while at the club.
