Well, that’s one way to fan a flame.
Granted, the Celtic supporters’ ad in today’s Sunday Herald was intended to detract from the Old Firm rivalry build-up and, instead, enjoy a “first meeting” between the two clubs playing. But, come on, it was hardly going to go down too well.
Some Celtic fans crowd funded a reported £3,000 to take out an ad which states that the Rangers they last played is no longer and that they “will not be playing any part in what we see as the Rangers ‘club continuation’ fiction.”
Their point is that the Rangers they will face in next week’s Scottish League Cup semi final is a new club who Celtic are yet to face and that the the term ‘The Old Firm’ is now redundant following Rangers’ liquidation.
Naturally, the advert caused a bit of a stir on Twitter.

The now infamous Celtic fan-piece in the Sunday Herald makes me cringe. Very self-congratulatory. That's never what Celtic has been about.
