Celtic and Rangers battling to sign Liverpool hotshot

Darragh Murphy

Steven Gerrard has not really been challenged in the transfer window thus far but Brendan Rodgers is about to put up a fight for one of Liverpool’s top prospects.

As he busies himself rebuilding the Rangers squad, Gerrard is eager to bring young Reds winger Harry Wilson to Ibrox on a season-long loan.

The new Gers boss is very familiar with Wilson’s promise, having watched his rise through the ranks at the Merseyside club.

But Gerrard is not going to have it all his own way because, apparently, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is planning to battle it out with the legendary midfielder for Wilson’s signature, according to talkSPORT.

Wilson signed a new contract with Liverpool in January, before he spent the rest of last season on loan at Hull, where he scored seven goals in 14 games.

The Welsh international is highly thought of by Rodgers, who attempted to bring Wilson to Celtic on loan last season.

If the Bhoys manager discovers that Wilson has been made available for a loan deal by Jurgen Klopp, expect him to pounce and attempt to deny Gerrard the chance to further bolster his attacking options at Rangers.

Wilson signed his first professional contract at Liverpool when Rodgers was at the helm but it remains to be seen whether the 21-year-old would prefer to work under a former manager or a Reds legend.
