You have got to have balance.
So when Jack Wilshere raised eyebrows and Arsenal hopes with (truthful) April Fools’ Day reports he was back in training, the midfielder made sure to do something regrettable as soon as possible.
So, less than two days after the world heard he was back in training for the first time in eight months, the 24 year old managed to have himself spoken to police after an altercation outside a London nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The England international had been out with his girlfriend when he was turfed out of the exclusive Cafe de Paris club following an argument, which continued out on the street.
In a video obtained by the Daily Mirror, Wilshere can be seen talking to police before pulling his hood over his head once he realises he is being filmed by members of the public.
He then hides behind some bins in scenes reminiscent of outside chippers up and down the country at 3am on a Sunday morning.
A Metropolitan Police statement read: “At 02:15hrs on Sunday, 3 April, police patrolling Coventry Street, W1, became aware of two groups of males involved in an altercation.
“Officers intervened and one man claimed he was assaulted. He did not require hospital treatment. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be delighted with the latest development.
Undoubtedly talented, a combination of frequent injuries and unfortunate incidents like spitting at taxi drivers, a caution for assault in 2010 and drunkenly leading fans in anti-Tottenham chants after last season’s FA Cup win are in the credit column opposite his infrequent brilliant displays and inspirational performances.
All about balance.
