Casemiro sent off during Crystal Palace win after he “throttles” Will Hughes in choking incident

“He throttles Will Hughes.”

Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 but it wasn’t all good news for The Red Devils as Casemiro sees red following an altercation with Will Hughes.

The game was very much in control with United two goals to the good, but an incident where Antony was thought to be showboating resulted in a melee between both teams.

There was huge confusion as it was difficult to see who was involved and who wasn’t, but one person who was very clearly picked up by the cameras was Casemiro.

Casemiro red

The Brazilian playmaker had his hands around the throat of Will Hughes and following a check with VAR, he was given a straight red card meaning that he will miss the next three games.

Speaking on the BBC Final Score programme James McFadden attempts to explain exactly what happened.

“The best way to describe it is that he throttles Will Hughes. He just grabs him, and I don’t know if he’s actually aggressive with it but you can’t be putting your arms around his neck.

Casemiro red

“I don’t know if he’s trying to push him out of the way but just grab his shirt or pull him out of the way, it’s a crazy decision for Casemiro, not only in this game, but the future as well.

“Big games are coming up, he will be missing for violent conduct, be missing for a number of games, he’s been unbelievable for Man United but he’s no good to him on the stands.”

Palace soon scored afterwards and came agonisingly close to getting that equaliser, but Erik ten Hag’s side managed to hold on and seal all three points.

The goals came from a Bruno Fernandes penalty and the seemingly unstoppable Marcus Rashford got their second to continue his incredible form in front of the net.
